Use the Internet to register your change of address
Use the electronic delivery option (Netskil) to register your change of address within Iceland. It saves time and effort.
Other methods of registering your change of address
- Print the form, sign it and send by mail.
- Registered property owners, municipalities, healthcare facilities and others can, pursuant to law, send in a request for the legal domicile of a person to be moved. When a request for the change of address for a third party is received by Registers Iceland, the information is assessed and the case duly processed.
- Municipal authorities accept notifications of changed address and send the information to Registers Iceland.
- Notifications for the change of address of a company/association are on the website of the Directorate of Internal Revenue (in Icelandic).

Register your change of address within 7 days.

Temporary residence: students living in another municipality due to their schooling can keep their legal domicile in their home municipality. Check the appropriate field on the form. A certificate from the school must be attached.

Change of address of children aged 17 or younger: the notification must be accompanied by the written approval of the child’s guardian/s or the person with whom the child was most recently registered. Specify the person to whom the child is to be linked in the Population Register: name and ID No. For couples who are married or in registered cohabitation it is sufficient that one of them sign the notification of their and their children’s change of address.

Change of address of persons aged 18 or older: those not married or in registered cohabitation must register their own change of address. You cannot register the change of address of your children who are of legal age or that of your parents.

One of the spouses changes address: in the event of a planned divorce you should make a note of the fact in the comments field. Married couples who are reuniting, e.g. after legal separation, should make a note of the fact in the comments field. The spouse with whom the person is being reunited must confirm the change in domestic arrangements on form A-252.

You cannot deregister from cohabitation on the basis of a change of address if you and your partner have children together.
