Who can vote in municipal referendums (íbúakosning) in Iceland?
- Icelandic citizens aged 18 or older on the day of the vote, with legal residence in the municipality
- Nordic citizens (from Denmark, Finland, Norway, or Sweden) aged 18 or older on the day of the vote, with legal residence in the municipality
- Foreign citizens who have lived continuously in Iceland for at least 3 years before the final day of voting, and have legal residence in the municipality
- The municipal council may lower the voting age to 16 for municipal referendums
You must be registered with legal residence in the municipality by 12 noon, 22 days before the voting begins, according to the population register (þjóðskrá).
