Stolen/lost ID card
Report a stolen/lost ID card
Disclaimer
If reporting a child’s stolen/lost ID card, both custodial guardians must submit a report/confirmation of the lost ID card in cases of joint custody.
ID cards that are reported lost are registered in the Schengen and Interpol information systems and are therefore invalid. If an ID card is lost, it must be reported immediately to the police, Registers Iceland, a district commissioner, an embassy, or a consulate abroad, along with a detailed account of what happened to it.
According to Article 7 of the Act on ID Cards, a new ID card shall be issued with the same validity period as the previous ID card if it has been reported lost.
If the ID card is found, it must be returned to the police, Registers Iceland, a district commissioner, an embassy, or a consulate abroad.
