For the registration of children born outside of Iceland and have a guaranteed right to an Icelandic citizenship. This includes children of parents with an Icelandic citizenship and children adopted from abroad based on an Icelandic adoption permit.
If an Icelandic citizen adopts a child in another country based on foreign adoption permits, they can request to the have the adoption confirmed by the District Commissioner. Upon confirmation from the District Commissioners office, the child is granted an Icelandic citizenship.
