Who has the right to vote in public referendums?
- Icelandic citizen who has reached 18 years of age on election day and has a registered legal domicile in Iceland.
- Icelandic citizen who has reached 18 years of age and HAS had a registered legal domicile in Iceland retains the right to vote for sixteen years from the date they move their legal domicile abroad.
After 16 years of residence abroad, an application must be submitted to Registers Iceland (Þjóðskrá Íslands) to be placed on the electoral register. - Foreign citizens residing in Iceland who have not been granted Icelandic citizenship do not have the right to vote in parliamentary elections, presidential elections, or national referendums.
