Application for a passport is pre-registered on ísland.is. In order to register online, you need to have an electronic ID.

The process is simple.

After the registration is completed, applicants need to appear in person within 30 days at the application location for a photo shoot. In the capital area, it is possible to schedule a time for the photo shoot.

Note that during the summer, there may be high demand at the application locations.

What the applicant needs to bring:

  • Previous passport.
  • Personal identification with a photo, such as a driver's license or ID card, if the previous passport is lost.

If the applicant does not have an official identification document (passport, ID card, or driver's license), the applicant, along with two witnesses, must come to the application location. They need to fill out an individual verification form, confirm the applicant's identity, and witness that the applicant is who they claim to be. Witnesses must have with them an official identification document, passport, ID card, driver's license, or name certificate.
