Application process abroad

Attention!
Icelandic embassies and consulates abroad handle the passport application process.

Icelanders residing abroad who need to renew their passports must contact Icelandic embassies or consulates. A list of application locations abroad can be found here.

If the applicant does not have an official identification document (passport, ID card, or driver's license), the applicant, along with two witnesses, must visit the application location. They need to fill out an individual verification form, confirm the applicant's identity, and witness that the applicant is who they claim to be. Witnesses must have an official identification document, passport, ID card, driver's license, or name certificate.

What the applicant needs to bring:

  1. Previous passport.
  2. Personal identification with a photo, such as a driver's license or ID card, if the previous passport is lost.
  3. Payment for the passport.
