Under a temporary provision of the Election Act No. 112/2021, individuals who were domiciled in Grindavík on 9 November 2023 and have since moved their legal domicile (address) to another municipality, are granted the opportunity to vote in Grindavík in the municipal elections on May 16th, 2026.

Requirements for applying to be on the electoral roll in Grindavík
- Legal residence in Iceland at the time of application and in a municipality other than Grindavík.
- Legal residence must have been in Grindavík (2300) on November 9, 2023.
- Icelandic and Nordic citizens – 18 years and older on election day.
- Other foreign citizens who have 3 years of continuous residence in Iceland on election day.
